Sitting and the Sea

We've been working on sitting up by ourselves for quite. a. while. The struggle seems to be largely because 'we' don't really care that much about sitting up by ourselves. Therefore practicing it seems -well- uninspired.

Jacob also seems to have a little security issue and likes having something behind him or around him for a little extra support and without it seems to -well- freak out and/or give up/fall over.

There is a lot of talk in the development/therapy world about motivators and finding the right thing to inspire desire, so-to-speak, for continued progress. As a result Jacob's parents and therapists have been working hard to find just the right toy, lights, excitement that will provide said motivation.

On our recent trip to the northern camp the little man surprised us the first time we plopped him down on the beach. We were reminded of something that we all know is true.... that there is no battery powered colored plastic that can hold a candle to sun, sand, and sea when it comes to inspiration. And inspired we were.

Footnote: Apparently also worth sitting up? Um, the shopping cart at Ace Hardware. First shopping cart experience ever... Fun!

  1. You never cease to amaze me with the humor and insight in your posts! Clearly now the engineers must come up with a way to have the beach/ocean/sun in Jacob's Mom and Dad's living room....are you up for that challenge?!

And by the way, Good. Work. Jacob!

  3. Another great post by a creative writer. Wondering if there is a shopping cart parked on the back porch.

  5. I noticed he got a little cranky in front of the toy. But when he smiles he lights up the room or the whole beach. I still think those blue eye glasses are bees' knees.
